LOCKDOWN CHALLENGES GALORE
Well what a strange time to be in the world! A pandemic is no laughing matter but we’re managing to keep positive and jolly on the whole. Yesterday during our one exercise a day run we ran past the Harrogate Convention Centre which is being turned into Nightingale Hospital, it will have 500 beds for patients. That was a bit weird and scary but it’s for the best, it’s good to see the country getting ready.
I don’t want to bore you with the usual pandemic chat so I
thought I would share with you the challenges that we have taken part in and
the challenges on our ‘To Do’ list.
So far we have completed the Climbing Lab ‘Stacker Plank
Challenge.’ Holding plank position, we stacked up as many tins as possible
each. Ant managed nine and I eight (I think). The Climbing Lab will continue to
release challenges on a weekly basis, the next is the ‘Tin Can Pick Up
Challenge’ – where standing on one leg you must bend down and pick up tin cans
and stack them up as high as you can.
Leeds University Union Dancesport Society has also joined in
the fun by creating dance challenges. We have failed miserably at the first
challenge, ‘The Toilet Roll Salsa Challenge’ which involved completing a basic salsa
with a toilet roll balanced on one’s head. My Nana however, absolutely nailed
it! We eagerly await the next challenge.
I have also completed the ‘See 10, Do 10’ press up challenge
however, I was tagged multiple times which resulted in me doing 40 of the darn
things.
The ‘Bring Sally Up Challenge’ or ‘Moby Squat Challenge’ has
resurfaced – holding squats according the song lyrics up or down. Instagram
warned me that I was breaking copyright rules by using the song so just don’t write
the name of the song? Sorry Instagram.
Leeds Beckett University Carnegie School of Sport staff member
Dr Sergio Lara-Bercial has created the John o’Groats to Lands End challenge –
which you can find on his Twitter @DrSergioLara_EU – earning points to
contribute to a total number of points that get you to Lands End. Virtually of
course! #StayAtHome He keeps changing the hashtag to keep up on his Twitter!
If you want to witness some bonkers challenge antics head on
over to Rory Southworth’s Instagram account @rorysouthworth to see him trekking
to Everest Base Camp, swimming in his wheelie bin and skiing in his hallway.
We have taken it upon ourselves to practise some of our existing
skills – Jive last week, Karate Kata this week. Who knows what mad antics we
will have completed by the time we are able to leave the house again.
Hope everyone is keeping well, this is not to say you should
start doing challenges but if you fancy something different then maybe have a go!
Keep well,
Em
