As promised it is time to chat about mine and Ant’s trip to Wales! So, we drove down to YHA Poppit Sands (Youth Hostel) from Cheshire loaded up with a car full of walking gear and goodies from Aldi. One of the good things about hostelling is that you can cook your own food. When I go on holiday and have tea out and about, I often tend to eat everything, way more than I actually need to. Where a treat meal is good, three of them in a row probably isn’t. The main thing about staying in a hostel with a kitchen was that it saved us a lot of pennies and with recently moving into a new house, that was very helpful indeed.
We could also create packed lunches and prepare snacks to
take on our long walks of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. We could have walked
much further than we did BUT we were on holiday and we needed to chill a little
bit as well. Heading down the path southwards from Poppit Sands gave us some
amazing views, the path skirting right along the edge of the cliffs, a perfect
point to look out for dolphins and seals. To be honest I did think one of us
might fall off and die when we ran away from an area of particularly nasty
flies but it was all good fun. We saw lots of different wildlife as well, where
I appreciate it isn’t quite as exciting as seeing a tiger and giraffe, we saw a
fox, lots of lizards (yes, lizards in Wales), different beetles and bugs and
lots of different birds.
We went on a boat trip to try and find some dolphins and
seals because they are quite common off the Pembrokeshire coast. We didn’t see
any. But the trip was still fun, I do really love being on boats which probably
helped a lot but the views of the coast from the sea were amazing too. The boat
went past the headland of Mwnt where we had been the previous day. Mwnt is a
really beautiful spot with a gorgeous beach and view point. I would recommend
visiting it if you are ever in the Pembrokeshire.
One thing to be said about the area is that the phone signal
is poor and the internet on your phone? Practically non-existent, for Vodafone
that is anyway. Our hostel didn’t have Wifi either. This was probably one of
the best parts of the whole trip. Where I do apologise to my close friends who
thought that I had died because they hadn’t heard anything from me for four
days, it was just so refreshing to not have to talk to anyone far away. No
notifications, no social media, no hassle. I could just enjoy my surroundings
and fully relax.

recommend staying there if you are wanting to visit Pembrokeshire.
